Comparison Measure tool

Use the Comparison Measure tool to compare two segments that have the same base properties. The tool is important when profiling customers and when building index style reports.

For example, use the tool to compare this month's revenue against last month's revenue, or compare a group of records against a base population such as a segment of most profitable customers against the base population when attempting to isolate the characteristics of people that purchase your products.

Procedure

  1. Drag the Comparison tool into the measure area of a report configuration.

The following screen is displayed:

  1. Select the function that will provide the basis for the comparison.
  2. Select the source column that the function will be based on.
  3. Add your first comparison filter using drag and drop, or the provided helper.
  4. Add your second comparison filter to the Base Filter field.
  5. Select the type of comparison that will be made. The example below shows an Index, but Difference, Percent and ZScore are also available.
  6. Select the required format using the numeric format helper.
  7. The Visible check box is intended for use with calculated measures where one measure may be used by another, but wouldn't be displayed on its own in the final report. In this case you would not select the box.

The comparison measure can be used in many report types. The example below shows a bar graph displaying a ZScore comparison of the top 10% most profitable customers against the base population, broken down by the dimension 'Occupation'.
