On a Schedule

Use the On a Schedule tool is used when setting up Tracks to schedule the implementation of Tactics, for recurring campaigns such as newsletters or birthday campaigns.

Procedure

  1. Drag the tool into the required track.

  1. Click Settings to display the following screen where you can configure the scheduler using standard settings:

Using End recurrence after: allows you to apply an end interval to the campaign to stop it running after so many occurrences.

If a campaign is paused and then resumed after the one hour window of opportunity if the campaign was scheduled to run at this time it will not then run, and this occurrence will not then run again.

For example:

  • A campaign is set to run daily at 8am on 21st Sept and end after 3 occurrences. It ran successfully on the 21st (making this occurrence 1)
  • The next schedule date is 22nd Sept at 8am
  • The campaign is then paused and resumed on the 22nd Sept at 9.15am; the window of opportunity for that day has been missed
  • The system then recalculates the next schedule date as 23rd Sept at 8am
  • The campaign run successfully on the 23rd at 8am (making this occurrence 2), BUT the campaign then does not run again after this.

In the campaign Track in the schedule header it correctly show (2) - BUT the fact that it does not run again means it has taken into consideration the missed job and included it as one of the three occurrences. This is because setting a campaign to stop after a certain number of occurrences is equivalent to having an End Date as you might not want that campaign to run after the specified number of occurrences. If one has failed the campaign should not run outside of the time intended.

For example a retailer offering an In Store offer the for next 3 Saturdays. Even if one Saturday failed, the offer should not go out on the fourth Saturday as that offer has now ended.
