Text importerThe text importer is used to import text files. To run a text import first click on the Connection Information browser button to display the first screen of the Text File Import screen.
Select the file for import by clicking on the File Path browse
button Select the First row contains headers box if appropriate, then select the file type. Fixed Length Records Select the Fixed length records radio button and click the Next button.
Delimited FilesSelect the Delimited file radio button and fill in the following details.
Record delimiterYou must specify where one record ends and the next begins using one of the following record delimiters: Carriage return/Line feed, Carriage return, Line feed or None. Field delimiterYou must specify where one field ends and the next begins using one of the following field delimiters: Pipe, Tab, Comma, Colon, SColon, At, Hash, Quote, Plus, Minus, Equals or Tilda. Fields/recordsIf you have selected the None record delimiter, you must specify the number of fields in the file using the arrow keys. QualifierYou will also have to set a qualifier for any text fields from one of the following; None, Single Quotes or Double Quotes. Click the Next button.
In the data window at the top, highlight the section of data which comprises each field in turn, dragging each selection into the box below.
As each selection is dragged, field information will be added. The wizard will use default field names and make a best guess as to the other attributes of the field based on the sample data. The user can then edit this information if required.
Delimited FilesWhen the Delimited file radio button was selected, the following screen is displayed. This shows a sample of the data file at the top and a grid at the bottom which the wizard has populated with field information. This is a best guess as to the data type and format based on the sample data. If the First row contains headers check box was selected, the fields will have been named accordingly, otherwise default names will be used. The user is free to change the default information if necessary.
Click Done to populate the fields of the Import Wizard with data. Clicking the Generate button enters the script details in the Control file. |
