Campaign Manager - Campaigns

CONTROL GROUP ELEMENT

The basic idea of a Control Group is to select a random sample of recipients from your campaign's Audience who will be excluded from receiving any promotions from the campaign, but still remain in the campaign flow. It is then possible to measure the Control Group's relevant post campaign activity and compare it to the activity of the group contacted by the campaign, to provide a baseline for accurately measuring the true value of the campaign.

The Control Group element can be inserted into the campaign flow at the relevant position to allow the Control Group assignment to occur. The assignment of recipients is random, with the ability to set a percentage and a minimum count. once assigned, the recipients will be included in the campaign flow, having all actions performed on them except the inclusion of them in any output based elements such as Email, File Output or Omni-Channel. These recipients remain active in the campaign and will also be added to Campaign History to facilitate the reporting comparison.

Control Groups will appear in all campaign counts, Record Viewers etc so they are still fully visible to the marketer.

Procedure

In Campaign View, open an existing Campaign or create a new Campaign.

Add a Control Element to the Campaign.

Click the Timer element and optionally enter a name for the schedule in the Name field.

The element allows the definition of the following parameters but note that this element is fully populated with default values and is immediately ready for execution.

Name Set a name for the element
Type The element can be used to either Set a Control group or Clear a Control Group based on this selection.
Minimum

This value will be a minimum number of recipients added to the Control Group. If the configured percentage produces a count lower than this value, the random sample will be increased.

Percent Takes a random percentage of recipients at this point on the campaign flow

NoteS:

There are a few considerations when using this element:

  • The process will always work on the recipients passing through this part of the campaign flow only.
  • The percentage assignment occurs on all recipients in the flow regardless if they are already in the control group so two consecutive 10% Control Groups might not set 20% based on the random selection.
  • Clear Control will clear all Control Groups recipients in that part of the flow regardless of where the Control Group was previously set.
  • When using a File Output element there is a Control Group option to allow the export of a separate Control Group file containing Control Group recipients.
  • If you want specific Count simply set the percentage to a very low value and set the minimum as required.
