Audience Element
Audience Elements are used to define an audience. An Audience Element is added by default as the first element in any Campaign.
When the Campaign starts, the audience is calculated immediately and passes on to the next connected element in the Campaign flow.
You can create and edit audience Segments in the following ways:
- Use Segment Builder to create segment documents that can be used in multiple campaigns.
- From within a Campaign - the segment exists in that campaign only, unless copied to the Segment Library.
Creating audiences
- Either open an existing campaign in Campaign View, or create a new campaign by clicking the New Campaign button in Campaign View.
- Click the Audience element.
- In the Outputs field on the left, select the database table on which your audience will be based. For email campaigns it is usually the Customer table that contains the email address column, but it could be any database table. To view the full datasource path, hover over the table you have selected.
- In the Outputs field on the right, select the audience type. The default is Fixed Audience. It is very important that you select the correct option for your campaign requirements:
Fixed Audience |
The audience defined at the start of the campaign. It remains fixed and no new recipients will enter the campaign during its lifetime. |
Update Audience on Resume |
Recalculates the audience when a campaign is restarted. Could be manual restart or part of an iLoader daily restart.
|
Dynamic Audience |
The audience is recalculated every time a campaign element is processed (for example, every 10 minutes) while the campaign is active. The audience can change depending on triggers and events that occur during the campaign’s lifetime. |
- Click the Add icon
in either the Inclusions panel or the Exclusions panel, depending on whether you are configuring people you want to include or exclude in the segment.- If you want to use an existing segment, select Select existing segment. The Segment Library opens. Click the Select button next to the segment you want to add to the audience. If the segment is not a , a copy of that segment is added to the campaign and can be edited. Master Segments cannot be edited from within campaigns.
Note: | In Segment Library, you cannot rename or add new folders, or move documents like you can in Segment Builder. You can only navigate around the folders, and select segment documents. |
- If you want to build a segment from scratch, select Build segment from the Add drop-down list. The Campaign Designer screen opens. Click the expand icon below for detailed instructions on building a segment in Campaign Designer.
Note: | Segments built within a campaign exist in that campaign only. If you want to save the segment to the Segment Library, click Save Copy. The saved copy of the segment will not be linked to the campaign in which it was built. |
